Here's a short version:

  1. Replace beltclip with PTT guard using the 2 screws that came with the radio.
  2. Remove original volume dial by pulling it off.
  3. Partially unscrew grub screw on the aluminum volume dial using 1.5mm hex key and align it on the radio volume shaft so it sits against the flat part.
  4. Secure the grubscrew tightly (thread glue is recommended) and ensure smooth rotation. If the rotation force required is too high for your liking, you can lube the o-ring using silicone oil which will make it turn easier.

Baofeng PTT Guard in combination with volume dial is a must-have upgrade kit for any airsoft player or radio enthusiast. This kit includes:

  • PTT guard to avoid accidentally pressing transmit button (especially when in a soft pouch)
  • Volume dial with o-ring to prevent unintentional volume adjustments
  • Rubber band to keep the PTT guard and comms plug extra secure

This Baofeng PTT guard is made specifically for genuine Baofeng UV-5R / UV-5R-8W models to prevent hotmicing. Our PTT guard is made from durable PA12 Nylon and is fixed in place with the original screws used to mount the belt clip.

Our aluminum volume dial comes with an o-ring that adds extra friction to prevent accidental adjustments and has a nice knurling pattern that makes it easy to adjust even with gloves on.

While the PTT guard sits tightly against the radio by itself we often found ourselves using a rubber band to secure the comms cable tightly so we included it as well and made a special groove for it in the PTT guard.

A nice guard for your PTT

Nice guard, replaces your belt clip, altjough you could cram both on there. Fits well, easy to install, but you need your own tools

Decent product with caveat.

Overall this was worth the purchase, but buyer beware, if you have a newer UV-5R, the opening around the volume knob is larger making this upgraded knob pretty pointless. The oring doesn’t come in contact with the radio at all, so it’s just as easy to turn as stock. Going to try and find a thicker oring to replace it and hopefully get the desired result. Would have been nice if this required no additional modding for the money spent. Maybe Tridos will consider including a larger oring in future kits.

Sorry to hear that the volume knob didn't add any resistance. We've noticed that some newer radios have a different diameter hole on the volume knob - we're looking into trying a different size o-ring that will work for that too.

i bought these things for most of my friends.

These things are really really good, however it seems with newer uv-5r variants, the volume/on/off dial hole seems wider, effectively making the volume dial product offered here useless. there's not enough pressure on the o-ring for the dial with these newer variants of the radios.

Unless you have a bunch of o-rings laying around to shim it. Personally i'd rather have the solution come from the product. not everyone is overflowing with spare parts like i might be.

Considering how well this upgrade kit works, i hope that Tridos improves on this and all the new uv-5r get to experience these upgrades to the fullest. :)

I use the UV-5R with my active headset, but the accidental press and sometimes the volume are annoying. Didn't test this on the field yet, but I'm sure it will help!

Its a good addon to the radio if needed. The exoskeleton holds well its place and prevents the buttons from accidental pressings, and the rubber bands are also a nice addon but not necessary for use. The only downside of the exoskeleton is that you can't really do morse with it because the call and moni buttons are harder to access. If youre not using them, the its not a problem.

My only problem is with the new volume knob. The design is very cool and nice to touch and holds kinda well horizontally, but gets off too easily vertically and im afraid of loosing it while using it harder on bigger fields. Its not that bad, but i hope that it helps.

Hi Benedek! Regarding the volume know - please make sure you tighten the grub screw on the side, once it's fully seated. It prevent the knob from coming off by itself. We've been treating all our radios roughly and none of the knobs have moved, even the slightest.

Its my fault, but I took the risk the PTT guard fits my UV-5RH.. but it doesnt :( but the other items I ordered are great!

Indeed - these PTT guards are made for a perfect fit for a certain radio. That said, we have just released a version that fits UV-5RM / UV-5RH radio ;)
